How Expat Nannies works
A calm, clear process for both sides. We are the introduction platform. The working relationship is between the family and the nanny.
For parents
- Browse — create a free account, then search published nanny profiles by city, language and availability. Browsing costs nothing.
- Request an introduction — create a free parent account and send a short request: who you are, how old your children are, and the care you are looking for.
- Hear back — the nanny accepts or declines your request. If the nanny accepts, you both see each other's contact details in your dashboard.
- Meet and agree — arrange a meeting, check references, and agree hours and rates directly with the nanny.
For nannies
- Create a profile — your experience, languages, certifications, availability and hourly rate.
- Get reviewed — we confirm your identity (ID photos or a short video call, whichever you prefer) and read your profile before publishing it, so families can trust the directory.
- Receive requests — families can only contact you through introduction requests. Accept the ones that fit you. Decline the ones that do not.
- Agree the arrangement — after the introduction, you agree the work, rate and practical terms directly with the family.
What Expat Nannies is — and isn't
Expat Nannies is an online notice-board and introduction service. The platform does not employ or pay nannies and is not a party to the care agreement. A nanny may work through a business or another lawful arrangement; the parties' actual conduct and mandatory Dutch law determine employment, tax and insurance duties. Families are responsible for their own checks. Our profile review is a starting point. It does not replace meeting the nanny in person and checking references yourself.
Nannies never pay to use the platform. Families pay only when they send introduction requests, from €14.95 once — see the pricing page for current prices.
What we check — and what we don't
Every profile is reviewed by our team before it appears in the directory. Here is exactly what that means.
- Identity confirmed — before publishing, each nanny either sends ID photos or has a short video call with us, whichever they prefer. Document copies are deleted after the check; only the outcome is kept.
- Profile review — we read every profile before it goes live: the experience described, the way it is written, and whether it gives you enough to decide who to contact.
- Certificates — a VOG (Dutch certificate of conduct) or paediatric first-aid certificate appears on a profile when the nanny holds one. Neither is required to join, and plenty of experienced nannies do not have them. Ask to see the original document when you meet.
- References — nannies describe their own past families. We do not contact referees, so ask for their details and call them yourself.
The Verified by Expat Nannies badge means our team completed these checks for that profile before publishing it. If a nanny changes key profile details, the badge comes off until we have reviewed the profile again.
We confirm identity and review each profile; we do not employ nannies and cannot guarantee fit. Always meet in person, check references yourself, and do a trial day before you commit.
