We just arrived and every daycare has a waiting list. Can a nanny bridge the gap?
This is one of the most common reasons families come to us. Daycare waiting lists in Dutch cities can run long, postings do not always line up with school years, and a sick day has no waiting list at all. A nanny can cover the gap for a few months or become the long-term arrangement — you agree the scope directly with them.
Are the nannies employed by Expat Nannies?
No. Expat Nannies does not employ or pay the nannies. Families and nannies agree care arrangements directly. Their actual arrangement and Dutch law—not a platform label—determine any employment, tax or insurance obligations.
How are nannies checked?
Our team reviews each profile before we publish it. We confirm identity — either through ID photos or a short video call — and we go through the experience the nanny describes. Nannies can also add certificates such as paediatric first aid or a Dutch VOG (certificate of conduct); not every nanny holds these. We always advise you to meet the nanny in person and check references yourself before you start.
What does it cost?
Browsing is free with a free account. Sending introduction requests starts from €14.95, once — see the pricing page for current prices. Nannies set their own hourly rate. You see the rate on the profile and agree it directly with the nanny.
How does Dutch childcare allowance (kinderopvangtoeslag) work with a nanny?
Kinderopvangtoeslag generally applies to registered childcare, such as daycare centres and registered gastouders — a privately arranged nanny is usually outside it. The rules depend on your situation and they change, so check belastingdienst.nl or ask a tax adviser before you count on an allowance. Many families choose a nanny anyway for the flexibility and the one-on-one care; it is a different product, not a cheaper daycare.
Which languages do the nannies speak?
We work with international families, so most nannies speak English plus one or more other languages: Dutch, French, Spanish, German, Mandarin and many more. You can filter by language when you browse.
How does an introduction work?
You send a short request. In it you tell the nanny about your family and what you are looking for. The nanny reads your request and accepts it if it is a good match. As soon as the nanny accepts, you both receive each other’s contact details and you take it from there.
